En plein air is a French expression meaning in the open air but Plein Air is much more than painting outdoors.  At times it involves several miles of hiking, biking or boating with all my gear to lasso an ever changing and sometimes moving composition.  Be it a grand mountain peak,  gentle rolling hills, a crashing seashore, a meandering river, etc.  I'm always ready when I hear the calling to paint in the great outdoors!
